Philip Jacobson of the LPNC EC also shared his notes for the article Executive Committee Structural Reform
Notes on A structure for LPNC more like the national LP
by Philip Jacobson I believe that the number of positions on the Executive Committee is too large. We have trouble getting a quorum, I believe because we have so many people, 15? members. There are so many EC members because of a tradition which rewards a functional job performer by making them "Directors" of a department, with EC membership. We have only 4 at large members. Recently I've had an opportunity to compare notes with other state chairs. I hadn't been doing that, most of the time I'd been LPNC State Chair. One benefit of this increased interaction is a better awareness of how other state LPs are organized. One thing I have learned is that LPNC has a relatively large number of members in its state Executive Committee. In LPGeorgia, for instance only "officers" on the EC are the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. The others are at-large or regional representatives.--- http://www.ga.lp.org/excomm.html This is exactly the way the LP is organized at the national level, except the national executive committee is called the Libertarian National Committee. The same is true of LPAlabama--- http://www.al.lp.org/officers.htm and Florida--- http://www.lpf.org/committees/index.php?committee=EC A similar but not quite identical system seems to be used in LPMississippi---http://www.lp.org/organization/mississippi.shtml South Carolina is more like us, with all the EC members being officers, with special jobs and titles, though there are far fewer of them.--- http://www.sclibertarians.org/SCLP_About2.html LPTennessee is like us, but instead of having any at-large members, they have three regional representatives.--- http://www.lptn.net/officers/ Outside the SE Region Alaska: similar to LPNC http://www.lpalaska.org/?page_id=7 Arizona: no info on web site Arkansas: no info on web site California: like LNC, but no regions http://www.ca.lp.org/excommembers.shtml Colorado: like LPNC http://www.lpcolorado.org/board.html Connecticutt: hybrid, three Directors, five at-large http://www.lpct.org/contacts.html Delaware: no info on web site D.C.: no web site Hawaii: no info on web site Idaho: three regional chairs, three committee chairs http://www.lpidaho.com/content.aspx?acctid=173&ccategoryid=135 Illinois: similar to LPNC http://www.lpillinois.org/LPIinfo/state_officials.php?PHPSESSID=51d4ee3198ad6b51ac660721c06ca334 Indiana: similar to LNC, all regional, no at-large http://www.lpin.org/index.php?q=node/36 Iowa: mostly like LNC, but with three specialized "Deputy Chairs" http://www.lpia.org/party/officers.php Kansas: no info on web site Kentucky: like LNC http://www.lpky.org/LPKY8.html Louisianna: like LNC http://louisianalibertarianparty.org/cms/content/view/10/25/ Maine: probably like LNC Maryland: seven members, standard 4 officers and two at-large http://www.md.lp.org/state_party_contacts.php Massachusetts: parliamentary system http://www.lpmass.org/bylaws.htm Michigan: like LPNC, but nine total http://www.mi.lp.org/organization/bylaws.php Minnesota: like LNC but no regions, nine total http://www.lpmn.org/party_officials.php Missouri: like LNC but no at-large Montana: no info on web site Nebraska: 4 standard officers, one media coordinator, 3 district coordinators Nevada: like LNC, 4 standard officers, three regional reps, one at-large http://www.lpnevada.org/stateparty/bylaws.php New Hampshire: Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, one "Vice-Chair" for every congressional district http://www.lpnh.org/bylaws.php New Jersey: like LPNC http://www.njlp.org/state_lp_officers.php New Mexico: like LNC http://www.lpnm.org/ContactUs.html New York: like LNC http://ny.lp.org/official/officers.htm North Dakota: could not load web page Ohio: 4 standard officers, immediate past chair, regional reps (6), county reps (8?) http://www.lpo.org/AboutLPO/Constitution.shtml Oklahoma: 4 standard officers, immediate past chair, county chairs http://www.oklp.org/bylaws.html Oregon: 4 standard officers, county reps http://www.lporegon.org/Organization/organization.html Pennsylvania: 4 standard officers, regional reps, committee chairs http://www.lppa.org/docs/lppa_constitution.php3 Rhode Island: no info on web site South Dakota: no info on web site Texas: 4 standard officers, two reps from each senate district http://www.tx.lp.org/leadership.shtml Utah: 4 standard officers, county chairs http://www.lputah.org/constitution Vermont: (?) 4 standard officers, assist Treasurer http://www.vtlp.org/main/organization.asp Virginia: 4 standard officers, regional (congressional district) chairs http://www.lpva.com/Archives/Documents/Bylaws/State/LPVA-Constitution-2006-2007.pdf Washington (state): no info on web site West Virginia: like LPNC, nine total http://www.lpwv.org/index.php?officers Wisconsin: like LNC Wyoming: like LPNC http://www.wyolp.org/bylaws.html summary -Like LNC llll/llll/llll/llll/lll 23 -Like LPNC llll/llll/ll 12 -unique 5
