Those of you with video internet had a chance to watch the latest LNC meeting via streaming video.
I watched our LNC Chair voice false claims relating to the Connecticut ballot access drive that the LNC failed to accomplish. Redpath claimed I pushed up their petitioning costs. I was the stand-in in CT, so petitioning could start early. When we reached the right time, the LPCT sent me a letter to complete and return, handing the names over to Barr, and I immediately did sent back the letter. Redpath's claim that I drove up their costs by being a stand-in in Connecticut are false.
If you want to look at things that drove up LNC petitioning costs, look at the contract they signed in MA: Way too many signatures with absolutely no notice to the state party that they were doing it. We collected a considerable number of signatures at great expense to our treasury, and my pocketbook, and that was money down the drain because we simply duplicated the LNC nominating paper effort, even though they had been told we were collecting signatures. The Ruwart campaign continues to file regularly monthly reports. Readers should note that the campaign followed the legal alternative because it was under the mandatory electronic filing limits of filing non-electronic reports, so the summaries here are rather more difficult to set up than would be the case with an electronic filing campaign. Having been there, I will also advise you, should you ever choose to do run yourself, that electronic filing is in the long run decidedly easier on your poor treasurer, at least if you are running a serious campaign and expect to raise and spend significant amounts of money.

Spending outruns income
For late November and all of December, the Libertarian National Committee raised $98,498 and spent $108,113, leaving it at the end of the year with $3178 cash on hand and $48,894 in debts, or so its FEC reports say. Those debts were $9,682 at the start of the reporting period, while cash on hand was $12,793 at the start of the period. For the corresponding period in 2004, the LNC raised $123,052. So where did the money go? Political advertising approached 0.2% of the total. (2 comments, 444 words in story) Full Story By phillies
The Barr Campaign continued spending and paying off debt through the end of December. The biggest news, of course, is that the Barr campaign never had any formal signed contract with the national party, and is refusing to hand over its donor and volunteer lists to the National Party for future party building efforts. This follows on to the Barr Campaign's apparent effort to hide as much as possible that Barr was a Libertarian. As a party building effort, Barr 2008 was thus a complete failure.
Some Libertarians still are on the Barr 2008 campaign effort as Field Consultants. You might want to take into consideration in evaluating what they are saying about Barr that from late November through to the end of December payments included There's plenty of additional spending. Writing on the "Wall" on the "LP" group on Facebook, the New LNC Communications Director writes
"Donny Ferguson (Washington, DC) wrote The LP does, however, oppose all forms of government-assisted, government-directed or taxpayer-funded abortion or family planning, which is more than can be said for the Republicans." To which I answer: Let me call your attention to our platform:

Andy Jacobs has been a Libertarian Party member since 1996. He has been petitioner since 2000 and has worked in 25 states and the District of Columbia, several of these places on multiple occasions.
The following are his personal opinions about ballot access petitioning: Now that the New Year has started, I think that it is time to unveil our plan to get the Libertarian Party on the ballot for 2010 and 2012. One big key to doing this is to START EARLY. Like RIGHT FREAKIN' NOW! There are a few states where we COULD BE petitioning RIGHT NOW. Some of these states are New Mexico, Alabama, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, West Virginia, and Arkansas. (9 comments, 3203 words in story) Full Story By phillies

Passed without opposition by the Massachusetts Libertarian State Executive Committee:
Whereas, the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts and five other state affiliates of the national Libertarian Party urged the Libertarian National Committee -- in the words of the Libertarian Party of Nevada -- to drop its vendetta against Angela Keaton and -- in the words of the Libertarian Party of Tennessee -- turn its attention to proper and necessary Libertarian Party business such as membership growth, finances, campaigns, advancing public policy in a libertarian direction, and increasing awareness of Libertarianism, and,
Whereas furthermore, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire categorically and unambiguously informed the Libertarian National Committee that the charge against Keaton related to New Hampshire was totally false and devoid of merit, and (1 comment, 378 words in story) Full Story
